September 2022

INITIAL RESEARCH PLANS

Towards the beginning of my masters inquiry I began to outline my ideal timeline for data collection.

October 2022

CONTEXT & LEARNING GOALS

I then explored the classroom context under which I'd be collecting data, in depth, in order to establish appropriate learning goals.

November 2022

DATA SET 1

This data set focused on establishing the level of student need for support in inference-making, particularly in their writing. I collect and analyze student scores from analysis heavy sections of paragraph responses on rhetoric.

DATA SET 2A

Moving forward from Data Set 1, Data Set 2A examines student writing scores after active literacy lessons focused on exploring character and point-of-view. These lessons were meant to better prepare students for inference-making in their analysis.

DATA SET 2B

Data Set 2B builds on 2A, analyzing another set of student writing, after students had completed modified active literacy lessons, wherein the focus was on exploring the CeESS model, its flexibility, and the relationship between support and significance. Student input and feedback was also surveyed in this round.

ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY

This is an ongoing literature review meant to support, bolster, and inform my own data analysis. These sources serve to help define the act of inference-making, and connect the critical thought required in inference-making, to the analysis my students are required to do when the write the support and significance components of a CeESS paragraph.
